This is the story of the countryside marches and rally in Hyde Park in July 1997 when over 120,000 people gathered to protest against the threat to country sports and traditions posed by a Labour MP's anti-hunting bill.
The rally was organised by the British Field Sports Society,the marches by a handful of local leaders.Columns of walkers from Scotland,Cornwall,Wales and from the Cumbrian fells,where John Peel once hunted the Blencathra hounds,made their way across country to London,
raising public interest and sympathy to unprecedented levels.
The result was that the rally in Hyde Park became a rip-roaring success.Speakers who addressed the huge crowd included Baroness Mallalieu,Michael Heseltine,Willy Poole,David Bellamy and Robin Page.
